Myrtle Meyer, 78, of 1415 North Minnesota Street, New Ulm, MN died Wednesday, January 15, 2003 at her home.

Funeral service was Saturday, January 18, 2003 at St. John's Evangelical Lutheran Church in New Ulm with burial in the City Cemetery in New Ulm.

Myrtle is survived by her daughters and sons-in-law Geraldine and Gerald Steffen of Sanborn, Ramona and Timothy Potter of Elizabethton, TN, and Karen and Steven Gilreath of Glasgow, KY: son and daughter-in-law Gene and Diane Meyer of Woodlawn, TN; grandchildren Jesse Potter, Nicole Potter, Joshua Gilreath, Deborah Gilreath, Donald Gilreath, Anja Gilreath, Adam Meyer, and AnnaBeth Stellick; great-grandson Michael ???; sisters and brothers-in-law Marvel and Elton Vorwerk of Gibbon, MN Lyla and Pastor Ralph Baur of New Ulm; and brother Roman Jaus of Gibbon. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Harvey Meyer on November 2, 1987; and sister-in-law Lois Jaus.

Myrtle was born February 22, 1924 in Gibbon to Martin and Hannah (Lieske) Jaus. She graduated in 1942 from Gibbon High School, Gibbon, MN. In 1942 she attended the Abbott Hospital School of Nursing in Minneapolis and graduated in 1945 as a registered nurse. While in nursing school she was in the Army Nurse Cadet Corps. Myrtle married Harvey Meyer August 18, 1946 at St. Peter's Lutheran Church, Moltke Township, MN. She worked at Union Hospital in New Ulm from 1945-1947, then from 1947 to 1951 she worked as a nurse in Gibbon, and then returned to Union Hospital in New Ulm from 1967 until she retired in 1988. She was a member of St. John's Evangelical Lutheran Church in New Ulm and enjoyed doing volunteer work after her retirement.
