Roman Jaus Family

Roman attended grade school at St. Peter’s Lutheran School in Moltke and graduated from Gibbon High School in 1944. He met his wife, Lois Bode, through St. Peter’s Lutheran Church Young People’s League. Lois graduated from Abbott School of Nursing in Minneapolis as an RN in 1953. Roman and Lois were married April 11, 1954. Roman has made a life-long occupation of dairy farming, first under his father Martin, and later independently in 1954. He has always attempted to farm the land virtually free of chemical use. Roman’s son, Martin, took over the operation of the Jaus Holstein Farm in 1990 and went organic the same year.

Roman’s hobbies include singing in the church choir, hunting, fishing, and being active in the church. Lois enjoyed gardening, cooking, sewing and reading. She was active in 4-H, LWML <ref>St. Peter’s Lutheran Women’s Mission League</ref>, and served on the Mental Health Advisory Board. Lois died at home of Kidney Failure July 18, 1994. Roman and Lois’s 7 children received their primary education in the Moltke Lutheran School, and by boarding homes in the Mayer, MN area, made attendance at Mayer Lutheran High School[1] possible for most of the children.

Martin attended school for Wildlife Management and worked at a game refuge in Illinois where be met his wife Loretta Lowman, a naturalist. They returned to the farm in 1980 where they presently reside with their three children. They are engaged in organic farming, becoming registered in 1991 as an organic farm.

Paula attended nursing school in Willmar and works as an RN at the Montevideo Hospital. Her husband, Rohn Halvorson, is a policeman for the city of Montevideo, MN. They presently live in Montevideo with their four children.

Gerald attended welding school in Hutchinson. He has worked as a welder, and presently works as a nurses aid at the Buffalo Lake Nursing Home. He lives on a homestead about ½ miles west of the Jaus Farm and continues to help on the farm.

Karla attended nursing school in Rochester and worked several years as an RN in Owatonna. Her first husband, David Langr, worked as a mechanic in Dodge Center, MN and Owatonna, MN. David was killed in a gyrocopter accident in May of 1987. David and Karla had three children. Karla remarried in 1989 to Dale Tate. Dale works as an electrician in Rochester. Karla and Dale now have three more children. Karla home-schools their children and also teaches piano. They reside near Dodge Center.

Linda attended beautician school in Willmar and worked several years as a cosmetologist. She met her husband Mike Rider at a church retreat. Mike is a pipe organ builder and repairman. They reside in Gibbon with their five children.

Kathleen attended school at St. Mary’s Junior College in Minneapolis where she got her degree as a physical therapy assistant. She worked several years as a PTA and then joined the US Army as a medic. She met her husband, Richard Delestre, while they were stationed at Ft. Hamilton, NY. Rich is presently a security counselor at the Security Hospital in St. Peter. Kathy works at a PTA in St. Peter & LaCenter Nursing Homes. The reside near Kasota with their two children.

Mariam graduated from Concordia College in St. Paul with a degree in Elementary Education and taught grades 3&4 for 1 ½ years in San Mateo, CA. She then attended nursing school in San Francisco, CA. She moved back to Minnesota in 1991 and presently works as an LPN at the Le Sueur Hospital.
