Dear Clara,

We like to send you very cordial blessings to Christmas. And that you'll have a happy and blessed celebration.

It's not the most important if we're sending gift to each other after all, but God's gift, which is his son, is our great christmas pleasure. How may you be doing, dear Clara, with your Ralph?

We think about you often, but yet we have little time to write. I hope you (singular) have received our thank you letters in spring. We also hope that you're still doing well.

We are also feeling good. Much work, some sorrow, especially due to the monetary reform. Everything is so incredibly expensive. But we're still happy when we're healthy and also have more to eat than last year. It's always the best to have peace in God.

This peace and his happiness is what we wish you in deep gratitude.

Dear Clara!

I, too, want to wish you and your lovely family all the best and God's blessings for the new year, as well that you'll have a merry christmas celebration.

How is [...]? Hopefully you're alright. [ ... ...] are, God blessed, healthy. Unfortunately our brother Rudolf is still in Russian captivity. He's hoping so much that he can this year, after more than 7 years, be home for Christmas again and again he's disappointed. He's 28 years old, and [I'm not totally certain about the following part of the sentence] he's still healthy as homecomers report.

I'm greeting you and your loved ones from all my heart and with gratitude.

• I don't know who these people were. I do know Clara Hinderer had moved from New Ulm, MN to Broken Bow, NE to live with her son Ralph Baur and family.
• This sort of reflects the reason why Martin Jaus sent powder milk to post war Germany.
