Dear Mom,

Well, Mom, here I am. I was real lucky. You see, our train pulled in about 8:15. That gave me enough time to catch the interurban at 8:35. The Schultz and Schuppenhaus were also at the station. I bought myself 10 rides for $2.55 right away.

I had a very pleasant trip. I read the magazine from cover to cover and I’ve come to the conclusion that I agree with your choice and I consequently hope you will again renew your subscription. I read Time and now this one on same material and I must say I like U.S. News much better. I also read nine chapters of John, so you can see I really kept right at it.

From Wyrville on, I had a chair in a smoker. Plenty people were standing.<ref>About 400 miles from Mequon to New Ulm one way.</ref>

Your lunch, well all I can say it was super. You certainly know how to pack an appetizing lunch. The chicken was so good. Especially the skin. Sounds strange I know coming from me. Wiedmann, Schmelz and Ortne helped me finish it off tonight.

And now I must tell you about the excitement I’ve caused around here. I can only tell you what I heard.

You see, the letter from the draft board in Watertown was here. Today Wiedmann came and saw the letter. It was long outdated. He didn’t know what to do, so he opened it. I guess he and Rollin Reimm told Meyer. He got pretty excited and called Kowathe. I don’t know much more. I plan on seeing him in the morning.<ref>The educational institution's president had to communicate with the draft board in order of students to get an exemption. The school had to hold classes 12 months a year for students to qualify for a draft exemption.</ref>

I tried going to bed, but I guess I’m used to my hours at home. Will get into Seminary groove later. The layout isn’t so bad. Of course everything is in a mess as yet. Will send a diagram as soon as I know a little more about it.

Oh yes, I must tell you I saw an exact replica of your green dress today. It gave me the same feeling as yours. I imagine I should realize that you are very busy and haven’t too much time in getting your clothes fixed up, in fact do. But I guess I just like to see you dressed neatly anyway. Don’t take my criticism to hard.

The box you sent me was already up here. I guess one of the boys brought it up.

If I found out anything from Meyer tomorrow, I will enclose news on tail end.

Love,

Ralph
