50th WEDDING ANNIVERSARY

Mr. and Mrs. Martin Jaus, Sr., Tendered Agreeable Surprise By Ladies’ Aid Sunday ______

Mr. and Mrs. Martin Jaus, Sr. , numbered among Moltke Township's most prominent and successful residents, were tendered a delightful surprise in the St. Peter’s Lutheran church basement last Sunday afternoon in honor of their golden wedding anniversary which they will observe on Tuesday, the 19th inst (sic). The event was arranged for under the auspices of the Ladies Aid Society of the church who, together with their husbands and families, congregated there to do honor to this worthy couple who are rounding out a half century of true love and faithful companionship.

The appropriate program opened with the old familiar hymn, “Nun Danket Alle Gott <ref>Wikipedia:Now Thank We All Our God</ref>,” after which Mrs. Albert Bentz, president of the society, delivered a congratulatory message in their behalf and in which she expressed the hope that the honored couple would continue to enjoy continued health, happiness and prosperity, and that they would be privileged to remain in our midst for many years in the future. Other numbers on the program consisted of a song, “Bis hie her hat mich Gott gebracht,” <ref> Up to this point, God has brought me to 1. So far God has brought me by His great goodness; To this day he has preserved the heart day and night ; So far he has guided me, Until this time he has delighted me, Until I have helped. 2. Have praise and glory, praise, and thanks for the faithfulness which you have so far, O God, lifelongly proved daily new! In my memory I write: The Lord has done great things In me and helped me. 3. Help also, my faithful hoard, Help me at all hours! Help me in every place, help me through Jesus' wounds; Help me in life, death and misery Through Christ's pain, blood and death: Help me how you helped! 3. Hilf fernerhin, mein treuer Hort, hilf mir zu allen Stunden! Hilf mir, o Gott, an jedem Ort, bis ich hab' überwunden, und steh mir bei in jeder Not! so ruf' ich dankbar noch im Tod: Du hilfst, du hast geholfen.</ref> by the male quartette, and numbers by society members, young people of the congregation and grand-children of the couple. As much of a surprise as the occasion was to Mr. and Mrs. Jaus their biggest surprise of the afternoon came when a pair of shoes<ref>Lyla Baur is currently (2017) in possession of these shoes. They look like Pilgrim shoes, buckles and all.</ref> which had been worn by the “groom” 50 years ago <ref>They were married on June 19th, 1894 in Carver County, MN</ref> was presented to them during the singing of a song that had been especially prepared for the occasion.

At five o’clock a sumptuous two course dinner was served, during which piano and saxophone duets and songs were rendered, and this portion of the program was especially enjoyed by all.

Mr. and Mrs. Jaus then expressed appreciation for the honor shown them and thanked the members of the Aid and their families for all that had been done to make the afternoon one long to be remembered by them.

The festivities terminated with Mr. Fisher, of Milbank, S.D. taking group picture of the entire assemblage.
