Louise Harms was born September 20, 1860 on the homestead. An attractive, but shy and unassuming girl, it was she who had her suitor, Martin Jaus Sr., a very handsome gentleman born in Canada, walk ten miles from the village of Hamburg to see her. The story was told at the couple's golden wedding anniversary that the first hike seemed in vain for she proved too shy to see him and hid until he had left again. The couple however was married in 1884 and built up a prairie farm near Gibbon to one of the finest farm places in that part of the state. She died in 1940. They had five children.
