Memories
(Wedding Picture) Ramona Potter How interesting! I was still a young girl when Tante Liddie died but my memories of her were of a woman always regally sitting EXACTLY like she is in the picture on the right. Tante Anna loved to tell the anecdote of her sitting like that while everyone else was busy working. When asked why she wasn't helping she replied "Ich wohl nicht und Ich wird night!" (I don't want to and I won't!). Tante Anna always said our entire heritage is made up of "Martha's"-except for one "Mary"-her sister, Lydia. Strange the tidbits our brains pick to remember. Unlike · Reply · 1 · 3 hrs Jim Baur Jim Baur Thanks for sharing the memory, Moni. I love the saying and will have to remember it. :-) Tanta Liddie and Tanta Anna were always people who Mom talked about, but seemed so distant to me. I was totally shocked when I learned Kathryn actually knew the hallowed ladies. Now I learn that you met them too! It shows how how out of step I am. Like · Reply · 25 mins Ramona Potter Ramona Potter Tante Liddie is a vague memory but Tante Anna is a precious part of my childhood. Karen and I spent many many hours and overnights at her house. She was a mother to our mother and a grandmother to us.

The Jaus Brothers were Uncle Otto and Uncle Herb. They lived with us in our home. Uncle Otto married in 1940 and moved into the other house after my Grp and Grm ..Martin and Louisa Jaus, had died. Tanta Lydia and her son Putz (preacher) had lived there with them after her husband had died in the 1918 flu epidemic. Uncle Herb continued to live with us until he died in 1948 when he wandered out in Jan. in sub-zero weather and froze to death. Tanta Anna & Uncle Heinie Gruenhagen lived about three miles from us on a farm and I spent a lot of time there after our mother died in 1934. Mom
