Karla Tate I only know things I heard as a child, so this might not be accurate. Uncle Herb had been ill, possibly influenza, and dealt with confusion/mental illness afterward. Grandpa Jaus had brought him to St. Peter hospital for either an evaluation or treatment and was so upset by some of the care the residents were receiving at the psychiatric hospital that it was decided to care from him at home at the farm. His bedroom was the room to the left when coming up the stairs (Gerrys room) and we still used his metal bed frame throughout our childhood. My dad said he had wandered off on a very cold night in his pajamas and that he was barefoot, by following his footprints they found his body near the farmplace that Uncle Harvey and Aunt Myrt lived on later. I always thought it was such a sad story.
