Dear Elsa,-

Send you herewith a photo of our Crescent Tennis Club. The weather was rather dirty for tennis for almost 2 weeks. I hope it will be so much better after vacations so that I can make up for lost time. Our vacation lasts from the 7th to the 18th.

Will you also get a vacation comming Easter? Talk about "Bucking" these last few days, it certainly was the limit.

Alf. Baur

Notes: August 28, 1943 was a Saturday. On this day in 1943, the worst British WWII bombing raid on Hamburg so far virtually set the city on fire, killing 42,000 German civilians.

This August 28th, 1943 picture is of Dad (age 21) and Grandma having a tranquil picnic. I find it so interesting to put pictures into historical context.

Any idea who the other people might be or what side of the family? I suppose they might just be friends. It isn't often a picture is dated with the exact date.
