Elsa (child #5 of Rev. Paul & Klara) was Elsa Adelheid Susanna Hinderer. Elsa married Otto Alfred J. Prange on September 22nd, 1918. Otto died from the flu less than a month after their marriage on October 18th, 1918. It was a terrible time for the Prange family as Otto’s cousin Willie died two days before Otto and his brother died a week after Otto. All three of these young men and Otto’s parents are buried in the Douglas Lutheran Cemetery near Waterville, WA. Elsa later married Harry D. Eberly on November 20th, 1920 and gave birth to two daughters; Dorothea Harriet and Katharine Loretta “Katy”.

I am searching for information on the following:

  • Klara [Clara] Schneider, b. NOV 1860, Germany
  • possibly born in Wuerttemberg, 18 NOV 1860 to
  • Simon Jakob Schneider and Susanna Straub.
  • (SOURCE: IGI record found for: Evangelisch, Owen, Donaukreis, Wuerttemberg, shows Klara b. 18 NOV 1860 and Julie b. 24 JUN 1862)
  • Klara Hinderer, maiden name on birth certificate for Amanda Maria Anna Hinderer in Minnesota shown as "Schneider", Census reports show immigration date 1886, marriage abt 1886, to Paul Hinderer (Lutheran Pastor in Minnesota, immigrated from possibly Wuerttemberg in Dec 1884, birthplace possibly Kaisersbach).
  • Klara and Paul Hinderer had atleast 10 children all born in Minnesota between 1887 and 1910.
  • Their daugther, Elsa A. Hinderer, widowed in 1918 flue epidemic, married for the second time, bet. 1920-1922, Harry D. Eberly of Pennsylvania. Elsa and Harry had two children: Katharine and Harriet Dorothy. Katharine Eberly married Donald Mitchell, Oroville, Washington. Katharine Eberly is my maternal grandmother.

I am especially interested in finding german records of Klara Schneider, birth, parents, immigration, and her possible mother Susanna Straub, as this is my direct maternal lineage, and will be important for contribution to genetic studies.

But I would really like help with finding and identifying Klara Schneider and Paul Hinderer in Wuerttemberg or the vicinity, and this is my first time searching in Germany, so I am unsure how to proceed.

If anyone links up to any of this lineage, feel free to email me directly if desired.

Thanks!

I am searching for any and all information on Elsa Hinderer. (my great-grandmother).

The April 8 1930 US FEDERAL CENSUS shows Elsa as the wife of Harry D. Eberly, in Okanogan, Washington State.

In April of 1930, Elsa was 36 Years old, and her age when first married was 25. Her first husband died during the flu-epidemic of 1918, as did Harry D. Eberly's first wife, Luella Jaynes. Elsa was borm in Minnesota, and her father and mother were born in Germany. I am hoping someone can find Elsa's birth records in Minnesota, and discover her parents names and birthdates.

Does any one have this Elsa in their Hinderer Tree?

I cannot be sure Elsa was her given name, but it was what her children knew her by. I suppose it is possible that Elsa is a nickname.

I have a social security death index report for Elsa, and a Washington Death Record:

  • Name: Elsa A. Eberly
  • Place of Death: Okanogan
  • Date of Death: 27 Mar 1974
  • Residence: Okanogan
  • Gender: F

Name: Elsa Eberly

  • SSN: 536-16-7685
  • Last Residence: 98855 Tonasket, Okanogan, Washington, United States of America
  • Born: 28 Jun 1893
  • Died: Mar 1974

Her headstone reads:

  • Eberly, Elsa A, b. 1893, d. 1974, Mother, s/w Harry D
