- "The German Lutherans were enlightened to the fact that the Word of God, not the German language, was the "One Thing Needful."
- "The Rev. William F. Sauer followed Rev. Polzin in December 1911. He had been called to preach German and English sermons. The Rev. Polzin had difficulty preaching in English. A new era began. World War I had a profound effect on the use of the German language.
