Short Biography

St. Martin's Lutheran Church, Watertown, SD. Jacob Baur's half brother, William Sauer served here. The following is a partial excerpt. "The German Lutherans were enlightened to the fact that the Word of God, not the German language, was the "One Thing Needful." "The Rev. William F. Sauer followed Rev. Polzin in December 1911. He had been called to preach German and English sermons. The Rev. Polzin had difficulty preaching in English. A new era began. World War I had a profound effect on the use of the German language. St. Martin's was labeled "pro-German" and the sacristy steps were painted yellow."<ref>newspaper article</ref>
