Arthur Aufderheide was the son of a brick make in New Ulm, MN. Arthur graduated from the highschool department of Martin Luther College, New Ulm, MN in 1940 with my Dad. They were best friends in grade school and high school. Swimming in the beer suds where the Schells brewery emptied into the Cottonwood river was a favorite pastime. Arthur was the sponsor of my oldest brother, Martin.

Arthur later became Dr. Arthur Aufderheide. He was a pathologist who did "digs" all over the world. Escavating the Egypt pyramids was on of his best moments. He even wrote a book about it.

The following article is about his expedition to the North Pole. This isn't about the actual expadition, but about a trial run they made on Mille Lacs Lake in 1967. I love the picture of Dr. Aufderheidi with the propeller contraption worn to protect the face.

Yes. Great things do come out of New Ulm.  :-)
