Permit us (seriously now) to thank you again for the extraordinary and hospitality shown us during our stay in Merna. Such spontaneous sincerity is indeed a rare occasion in this stinking world.

The morning after our return home (we drove through New Ulm after leaving Merna and arrived about two A.M.) we learned that my parents , together with the Sannwalds were leaving for a four day trip to the Black Hills on that morning, so we took our stuff out of the car and they used it. Uneventfully. Following their return, Mary and I drove up to International Falls, picked up her folks and took them out to the Black HIlls on a 5 day trip. You can hardly of the pleasure those had.

Who has not been out of International Falls for 22 years except a few trips to Minneapolis when Mary was in school there) had on that trip. We even helped Mrs. Buryk through a mile of underground caves.

Jankes were delighted to hear from you (via us) and asked countless questions which we endeavoured to answer. As yet have not had a chance (correction: As yet have not taken the time). Upon my returning home I also found my army orders awaiting me requesting my personal services to be contributed to the welfare of the United States that the arsenal of Democracy, as well as for the eventual recovery of the world and the prevention of further wars and attainment of world peace. Thus, on October 1, 1947, I shall begin to Save The World by reporting for duty in Texas for one month shall (un)complainingly do pushups and other calistanics from 6:00-7:00 every morning.What! You ………...

If one is to Save The World (I haven’t found out for whom yet; the Reds I suppose), one must be FIT - said the captain.

Enough of this drivel. Mary and my mother went to Minneapolis today leaving me the sole and undisputed cook - and dad will be will be home in ½ hour, so please excuse me while I put the potatoes on the bread and fry the jam.
