This was in the back of Ralph Baur's tool shelf. It is a HART MFG Co tap/die made in Cleaveland, OH. It was patented Aug 29th, 1882. It is the same type of tool Henry Ford used to build his quadricycle.

I believe Dad must have gotten it from Martin A. Jaus. It was often used with steam engines to thread the steel pipes. Martin's uncle Simon Jaus was a steam engine enthusiast and owned a steam grain mill. Martin had a steam operators license and used steam tractors on the farm.

According to the 1910 "The American Blacksmith" it is also used in blacksmithing.
