Myrtle Milla Jaus

Myrtle attended the Abbott Hospital School of Nursing and graduated in 1945 as a registered nurse. Harvey served in the U.S. Navy during World War II from 1942-1945 in the South Pacific Theater. After marriage, Harvey worked in a lumber yard, and Myrtle for the local doctor in Gibbon until 1951 when they bought a farm adjacent to the Jaus Farm. They had three daughters and one son (Geraldine, Gene, Ramona, and Karen). In 1965 they moved to New Ulm where Harvey was employed at 3M, and Myrtle resumed her nursing career. Harvey retired in 1984 due to declining health, and was called to his Eternal rest in 1987. Myrtle retired in 1988 and continues to live in New Ulm.

The children received their primary education in Lutheran schools. Geraldine, Ramona, and Karen graduated from the high school department at Doctor Martin Luther College (DMLC), and Gene graduated from New Ulm Public High School.

Geraldine graduated from Willmar Technical College as an accountant/secretary. She is also a SSG in the U.S. Army Reserves. Gary is farming in partnership with his two brothers near Sanborn. He is a 1SG in the Reserves, and served in Saudi Arabia during Desert Storm.

Gene served in the Air Force for 2 years following graduation from high school and then joined the U.S. Army Reserves. He was employed at 3M in New Um until moving to Tennessee in 1988, where he is employed as a metals fusion technician. He is a SSG in the Reserves and served during Desert Storm in Saudi Arabia. Diane is a secretary at the University in Clarksville, TN. Gene has one son and one daughter. Diane has three daughters.

Ramona graduated from East Tennessee State Universityin Johnson City, TN (ETSU) with a B.S. in nursing. She served in the U.S. Army for four years. Tim also graduated from ETSU and served in the army for 12 years. Both opted to end their military career. Tim is presently attending the University at Knoxville, Tennessee, pursuing a career in Veterinary Medicine. Ramona continues to follow her nursing career. They have one son and one daughter.

Karen attended ETSU for two years, and then elected to become a full time homemaker. Steve graduated from ETSU and is a Major in the U.S. Army. He served in the conflict in Honduras, and later in Saudi Arabia during Desert Storm. They are presently stationed in Wiesbaden, Germany. They have two sons and two daughters.
