Hinderer trio named farmers of the year
35 years ago, 1966
The selection committee for the Waterville Chamber of Commerce named the Hinderer brothers as the 1966 Conservation farmers.
The Hinderer brothers, John, Paul and Mark, operated the Hinderer Trio Farm.
The brothers were born in Waterville, and they began their farming during their school days during 4-H programs.
The Hinder brothers operate more than 2,200 acres of cropland and more than 3.100 acres of range.
They received a serious set back in their range program when a fire upwind from their pasture burned for three days.
They had to dispose of their cattle to let the range recover. The Hinderer brothers say they will restock their pasture next year.
The Hinderer brothers have built 13 dams over the past tew years for stock water and a program to catch silt, reduce runoff and prevent gully damage.
